TL;DR – read my Paris reccs here!

Happy Monday!

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend. My mother was in town so Erik & I took her to Napa Valley to do some wine tasting.

Now, I am beyond overdue for this post but I wanted to share the 24 hours in Paris, Erik & I had the other month.

To set the tone, Erik had some business to handle in London. I’ve been not so subtly been hinting that I need want to go to France for the past year. He suggested that we tack on a day after his business trip & before we knew it, we were off to Europe.

Now, these 24 hour trips aren’t new to us. With the nature of his work & the remote nature of mine, it’s easy for us to hop on a plane. Last year we did 24 hours in London & Amsterdam.

Our M.O. when it comes to these is to really take everything with an open mind. We throw out the structured schedule, because it can get a little stressful. I find I get too stressed on making it to everywhere on the list. For places we’ve never been, we make a point to go to the touristy places & then find places around the way.

We got to Paris on Friday evening at 4:00p via the Eurotrain. We went straight back to the hotel, changed clothes and set to explore the city.

We stayed at the La Maison in Champs Élysées. It was like staying in Patrick Bateman’s apartment. Think very clean lines, white everything, and extremely modern… in fact, fashion designer Martin Margiela designed it. We had the concierge snag us late night  reservations at Ferdi {more on this in a sec}. I was STARVING and the concierege recommended we stop by the cafe down the road.

Now, this was my first experience in a French cafe. I had a red Burgundy and the special of the day which was rice with grilled steak. It sounds indulgent, but the portions were smaller & it was the perfect snack to share with Erik to hold us over until dinner… not to mention it was extremely inexpensive!

We decided to walk along the Seine, see the Eiffel Tower, & head over to the Louvre. It was a stunning walk & seeing the Eiffel Tower for the first time was seriously something else. We got to the Louvre at about 7:00p & stayed until closing time.

It was time to get to our reservations so we took a quick cab to Ferdi. TBH, we could of walked it, as we didn’t realize how close Ferdi was to the Louvre. We had about 30 minutes until our reservations so we grabbed a glass of wine at the restaurant, Flottes, next door, as Ferdi is very small.

If we spent more time in Paris, we would of 100% dined here. It was adorable! It had a great shellfish selection that looked divine! One glass of Chablis later and we were back to Ferdi.

Okay so you’ve probably heard of Ferdi. It is where Kendall Jenner got her cheeseburger after the VS Fashion Show. This was one of the best restaurants Erik & I have been to! Unfortunately, the burger was sold out, so we got meatballs with orzo, empanadas, macaroni and cheese, and ceviche. The meatballs with orzo were off the charts! In fact, Erik & I have been working on a recipe similar to post on the blog because it rocked our world in a major way.

If you go to Paris, you MUST go to Ferdi!!

At this point, we are exhausted and it’s after midnight so we went straight to bed so we can hit the ground running.

The next day, we slept in a bit, so we skipped breakfast and ran out to see the city. Our plan was to go to the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, and explore the places in between.

We stopped by the cutest cafe called Bert’s by our hotel to grab a cappuccino before we went to the Eiffel Tower.

To be honest, I can go on and on, but really, all we did was walk around. If we saw an interesting restaurant or bar, we went in. Another rule we have is to only order ONE thing, that way we can squeeze in as many places as we can without getting tooooo inebriated or full. To be transparent, the place we went to for lunch was just okay & I can’t for the life of me remember the name of it. This happens when we just wing it 🙂

Now, after we hit the Arc de Triomphe, we walked into Cafe Balzac nearby & it was seriously adorable! There we had two beers and the sun was starting to set. Now, I thought Golden Hour in California was gorgeous but I gotta say… Paris has us beat.

We walked around the shops of Champs-Élysées while the sunset. We stopped by Hermès but tbh, it was WAY too crowded so we walked right out. It was cool to see the shop though.

Anyways, we decided it was getting time to figure out what to do for dinner & since the concierege was so helpful the night before, we grabbed a drink in the lobby bar & enlisted his help.

…. except, if you remember here, the one we had (different from the night before) wasn’t too helpful & basically told us “good luck finding a place in Paris on a Saturday night”! Hm, ok.

So off to google we went… we looked up place after place & again, we were shooting in the dark. We came across a place called Chez Julien in the Le Marais neighborhood & they had some later reservations left so Erik snagged them.

We had some time to spare, so we decided to go to the hotel near us, Le Bristôl. Guys, if you go to Paris, at the very least, stop here for a drink. These are some of the best cocktails we’ve ever had & the attention of detail was impeccable. Erik had the B’Smoked & I had the Jingle Pear. I loved that he stamped the lemon with a Le Bristôl stamp!!

Well, before we knew it, our resos were coming up so we hopped in the cab and got to one of the most memorable dinners of my life. I set the scene here but think tall ceilings, gorgeous chandeliers, wax candles with dripping wax &  Daft Punk playing.

I had the châteaubriand, plenty of red wine (at this point, I can’t even tell you what varietals), a french kiss, & shared the chocolat dessert with Erik. More on Chez Julien & the French Kiss here

It’s now way past midnight, and Erik & I have to be up in 3 hours to get ready for our flight. We took a quick nap & was up and at ’em at 5:00a. We had a little time before our flight and I was a little bummed since I have yet to have any croissants or crepes, so Erik suggested we grab a quick breakfast at the hotel.

They had a BUFFET of crepes & croissants and I def filled up my plate and got my fix 🙂

Time to head back to San Francisco, sadly. I don’t have any photos from this, but strangely, one of my favourite memories was driving through Paris to the airport in the cab. It was about 6/6:30 in the morning and still dark. All the restaurants were closed or just opening and the streets were empty. It was seriously beautiful & tranquil.

We got on our plane, had a bloody mary (the flight had a bloody mary cart!) & I was asleep until we touched down in SFO 9 hours later…. aka a big tip I have for beating jet lag!

&&&&&& that’s all she got!

So long story short, lots of walking around, lots of playing tourist, lots of taking it all in, lots of eating & lots of drinking!

We are def eyeing Paris & more around France for a longer vacation. Any reccs if we do? I’d love to get to some of the classic wineries & champagne houses there.

Paris was EXTREMELY special. I honestly can’t tell you what I like better: Paris or Japan. They both reign as my favourite places on earth. If you ever have any questions on them, feel free to shoot me a note… until then I am aching to get there in a major way!

Below, I put together a list of the places we recommend and places recommended to us! Anything in black, we went to, and everything in navy were recommended to us!

Stay ::

La Maison Champs Élysées :: this was where Erik & I stayed. Very modern decor & interiors designed by Martin Margiela. Phenomenal restaurant and really cool cigar & lobby lounge. The rooms are VERY modern & the bed was like sleeping in a cloud! We loved this hotel and will def stay again! Five stars and very decently priced.

Le Bristol :: this was on my list & recommended to me by one of my OG all time favourite bloggers, Lauryn of The Skinny Confidential! There are two cats that live on the premise too! Gorgeous hotel with classic Parisian architecture. The bar here was one of the best I have ever been to.

Hotel Da Vinci :: centrally located boutique hotel recommended by gf, Elise Gabriel {such a babe too, right?!} that makes the entire city super accessible!

Ferdi :: get the cheeseburger & meatballs with risoni!

Chez Julien :: everything here is so good, try to get the table for two by the window. I loved the chateaubraind & french kiss! (can get resos on Open Table)

Flottes :: great for wine & shellfish! The Fruit de Mers platters looked insane!

Bert’s :: fast service cafe – i loved the grab & go detox smoothies (you give them to the barista to blend1) & fresh grapefruit juice. Great to grab coffee or a light bite as you head to the Eiffel Tower.

Paris Hanoi :: fantastic Vietnamese in Paris

Septime :: phenomenal dinner place but tough to get reservations! plan in advance if you can.

Bistrot à Vins Mélac :: fun rustic French restaurant place where waiters are “nasty” on purpose

La Cevicheria :: minimalistic seafood joint in a bright airy ambiance

Café de Flore :: also recommended by Elise for the herb omelette and fresh orange juice!

Le Bristol :: five star hotel with one of the best bars I have ever been to! The detail is strong from a drink apertif, to stunning cocktails, gorgeous interior, & a french dj on the weekends!

Le Balzac :: great to grab a beer after seeing the Arc de Triomphe. They also have a cell phone charging station!!

Syndicat :: hidden place only serving French alcohols.

Candelaria :: a speakeasy in Paris that’s also a 24h taqueria!

Little Red Door :: very creative cocktail menu, close to Candelaria.

Le Perchoir :: one of the only rooftop bars in Paris!

La Buvette :: tiny wine bar with a killer ambiance.
