Really just the best turtleneck on the market, trust me.

It’s no secret, black turtlenecks are my JAM.

There’s something so chic & timeless about them & they are flattering on everyone.

The other day, I was shopping at the Gap right by my house {hello 40% off sale!} & left with quite possibly THE BEST DAMN BLACK TURTLENECK that duty calls and I HAVE to share it with you guys.

For starters, when it comes to a black turtleneck, there are a few things I look for. ***clears throat Taylor Swift “…Ready For It?” style***

WHAT I LOOK FOR IN A BLACK TURTLENECK

ONE- it can’t be too “turtle-y” – does this even make sense? There are some turtlenecks that are just a no for me. Personally, I don’t like the neck folded down, if anything, I like a mock neck a la Steve Jobs or one single layer.

TWO- the material! I like slinky. It’s super flattering on everyone. It also has to be soft – no scratchy turtlenecks here. I need it soft enough to wear with or without a bra {bra-less is the new black, after all}. I also like RIBBED material. I find it gives it a nice high quality structure.

THREE – LENGTH! The longer the better because I like to tuck them in and top with a rad belt. Sleeve length is important to me too. I personally LOVE thumbholes and if they don’t have them, I want them long enough so I can DIY a thumbhole. You never want to be tugging at your sleeves anyways. Not to mention, I like the ruched look of extra length vs the pulled too tight because it’s too short. Anyone else?

WELL – this baby of a turtleneck passes those tests with flying colours. It is SO pretty that I am considering getting like 20 more so I have them on deck. I am also loving the striped one too.

The best part of this turtleneck? The detailing! The neckline, sleeves, and hemline all have girly ruffles. It’s what really takes it to the next level.

LET’S TALK STYLING A BLACK TURTLENECK

It’s super easy to dress up and dress down – you can make it as conservative or as edgy as you want.

Here, I’m wearing it with ripped grey skinnies, thigh high boots, a studded belt {also on sale!} and a houndstooth coat! I got this coat before I went to Japan for the first time in 2015 so it’s a special one to me. I love a good print with a monochrome outfit.

I also love it with a ponytail! It gives it kinda jockey kinda dominatrix look, right?? As far as lips, I did a classic nude :: Rum Raisin by Revlon which has allllll the 90s feels.

I am currently loving THIS look from Zana Bayne. Leather & black turtlenecks are a major win in my book. I think they’d be so fun to pair with some of their leather harnesses too.

Another fun way to wear them is to wear a choker over the neck – it’s a fun way to layer and can add some bling to your look. I like this fierce lion one a lot.

It’s also a fun way to bring in slip dresses in the winter. Swap the tee’s (like seen here) for turtlenecks. It’s a fun school girl vibe. I personally love it with plaid dresses.

Anyways, I’ve had this one on literally all weekend {if you see my stories, you know} & it got allll the complements from Erik.

Lately, we’ve been going to a rad restaurant in the Marina District called Maybeck’s… & I’ve worn it there everytime – HA! He’s having a major gin martini moment but they do happy hours over the weekend. Real talk, but more restaurants should! We’ve been cooking every night before he left for Japan so it’s a fun thing to do for a quick outing before we stay in for the night.

We are alllll for 4pm champagne & toasted raviolis or fries for an appetizer before we get cooking. It’s been a really fun tradition. If you are in SF, you HAVE to go!

Speaking of, I’ll get a full blown SF guide for you guys. I get a few DM’s and also personal texts looking for things to do in SF so it will be a nice one stop shop for all!

I’m also going to get a few other guides going for you come mid 2018 :: think instagram, blogging, recipes, etc so if there’s anything you want, just let me know.

Happy Wednesday!! & if you order from Gap, use the codeΒ CHEERS for 20% off your purchase!
