BRB! but while I’m gone….

Hey what’s up hello!

Erik & I are back from LA which sure was a whirlwind trip, but there is no place like home, that’s for sure. We had a great time but it was jam packed. However, our favourite part of the trip was The Beverly Hills Hotel. If you are in LA, be sure to check it out – it is so dreamy.

As mentioned here, transparency {& especially vulnerability} is a huge priority of mine soooo I’m going to take about a week.. maybe even two weeks… from blogging.

In this space, taking a break is so weird since it’s 24/7 & never sleeps which makes taking a break challenging and honestly… a little scary. Not to mention, the pesky ass comparison game can hit something fierce but right now, it’s so necessary for my sanity as I just feel like I’m too behind on things.

First the transparency…

I have a lot on the back-end of the blog I need to work on soooo that is my focus right now. I have two big sections I want to have launched on this blog by May & I want to  jazz up some things so I’m prioritizing that.

Also, I’m trying to get better at Photoshop, like the image I made above! So I need some time to practice my skills & home in on my branding.

I have some internal & external collabs coming up so I want to be able to give them my full focus, and solidify my editorial calendar.

Okay, now let’s get a little vulnerable….

I know you’ve seen me complain here about feeling sick all the damn time. Erik & I think I actually have some food intolerances {as well as being allergic to DOWN of all things} so we want to dedicate some time to pinpoint that.

Starting today, I’m keeping a food journal of everything I eat and how I feel the next day. Has anyone dealt with this? Let me know as I really don’t know where to begin with it! So the time away will help me get to the bottom to why I feel so damn awful all the time. On top of that, I’m a little stretched thin at my full time job, so I want to give them my focus while things are really busy.

That said, I don’t want to leave you hanging so here’s a list of everything on the internet that is rocking my world rn.

1 }: Honey Lemon Chia Seed Muffins by Table for Two. Literally all of my favourite things in one – the perfect spring treat!

2 }: Meatless “Meat” Sauce with Chickpeas & Mushrooms by Cooks Illustrated. I love the idea of using chickpeas as a meat alternative & Cooks Illustrated will NEVER lead you astray!

3 }: Chile con Queso by Texas Monthly. One of the things I miss the most about from Texas so I can’t wait to whip this cheesy goodness up ASAP!

4 }: Melon Balls with Moscato by Martha Stewart. Melon paired with tarragon & sweet moscato is a killer pairing. A fun snack to have by the pool with a little buzz 😉

5 }: Champagne Risotto by Giada De Laurentiis. My favourite dish to make for an a sexy date night in. Woo your boo with this, trust me. Pair it with the champagne you use!


1 }: Skinny SPIKED Orange Strawberry Julius by yours truly! Feel healthy af with this superfood & nostalgic update on an old favourite that’s even better spiked.

2 }: Watermelon Mojito by Ina Garten. Watermelon & mint are always a winning combo in my book & even better spiked!

3 }: S’il Vous Plaît Sparkling Cocktail by Imbibe. Gin, thyme, & champagne? oui, s’il vous plaît!

4 }: Boost Your Water by Ayesha Curry. I love her suggestions on how to make water even healthier for you! I’m going to do a mix of 1 & 2!

5 }: Aperol Spritz Floats by Honestly YUM. Wait, can I have this every single day, please?

1 }: Inside the Fascinating Marriage of Julia & Paul Child by Town & Country.  They are one of my absolute favourite couples & the love and support they mutually provided each other is one I strive for.

2 }: Knife Skills Every Home Cook Should Master by Goop. This guide is SO helpful – book mark this on your iPhone for when you’re in the kitchen!

3 }: Myth-busting in the realm of wine additives by the SF Chronicle. A great article clearing the air about wine additives…. yes, this includes sulfites.

4 }: Why I Drink Olive Oil by Annie Lawless. A fascinating read on the benefits of olive oil – this is something I incorporated in my routine recently.

5 }: The Magic of Pearl: Glowing Skin & Amino Acids by The Skinny Confidential. I bought my pearl powder immediately after reading this from the OG {pearl powder here but buy through this link for 20% off}

1 }: DIY Gemstone Choker by Musings on Momentum. How adorable is this choker? This looks like something from Free People for a fraction of the cost… not to mention easy af.

2 }: Everything Seasoning with Superfoods by meeeee! Seriously, this is a pantry staple, I put it on everything…. & have 3 bottles of it! Sex up your food with this

3 }: A Dozen DIY’s for a Badass Kitchen on a Budget  by Apartment Therapy. My kitchen is probably only 100 square feet so these DIY’s are super rad to upgrade it. I love the tiered plant holder for fresh herbs!

4 }: DIY Monogrammed Moccasins by Fashionlush. Erica has the best DIY’s & this mother’s day gift is the cutest & I can’t wait to whip these up! Make one for you & your mama!

5 }: How to Roll a Joint According to 5 Youtube Videos by Kindland. In honor of 4/20, here’s the 411 on how to roll a joint… which is something I am absolutely terrible at. Practice makes perfect!


1 }: I recently rocked this two piece in LA and it was one of my favourite looks. Bonus points? The pants go perfect with button downs for a casual cool look. Very old hollywood glam!

2 }: I love my Egyptian Magic but currently need something lighter with the warmer weather so I just bought this anti-aging face cream to use in tandem with my anti-aging serum. Love the packaging!

3 }: Dying for this cookbook from Ziggy Marley where he shares Jamaican culture & his love for organic foods. Perfect for the upcoming season!

4 }: This ruffled cable knit cardigan looks WAY more expensive than what it is. I LOVE that dusky blue colour, especially to throw over for a breezy Spring in San Francisco.

5 }: I am on the hunt for my birthday dress but this skirt + this top from Pitusa are on the top of my list in red.

1 }: Magic Tape 69 by The Magician. Cheeky, but his 69th Magic Tape was released live from the Museum of Sex in NYC. Press play and knock out your to-do list with 60 minutes of sick jams.

3 }: Kimbra – Cameo Lover {Shook Remix}. This is a favourite from 2013 & the lyrics are amazing. This nu-disco remix is absolutely phenomenal and totally takes me back.

4 }: Fono – Everybody Knows. Seriously, everything Fono makes is pure gold. This song is one of my favourites and a neat mix of chill electro & dub. The vocals are by Anna Straker who was only 18 when recorded!!

5 }: Calvin Harris – Neon Rocks. I’ve been a long time Calvin Harris fan since 2006. It’s been so neat following him for the past 10+ years and see him grow but I must admit, his old stuff in the mid/late 2000s is my absolute favourite. This is my all time fave CH song from his debut album, I Created Disco.

    • Thanks Nicole!! It was strangely fun to write – in fact, I might incorporate the Champagne Edit for a fun weekly feature. The back-end stuff can be SO time consuming so it’s been nice to focus on that and clean things up but still so much work to do. & THANK YOU, it’s been so annoying but hopefully we get answers soon!   • Taking a break is necessary sometimes! I understand the frustration of taking on way too much and suddenly realizing that you can’t (always) do it all! I hope it’s just what you need over these next couple of weeks. 🙂

    As for the food intolerances, ohhhh I have been there! I went through an entire elimination diet and about a year of working on repairing my gut. It’s a HARD process, but it is so worth it. I can’t even tell you how much better I feel now than I did a couple of years ago!! It’s what inspired me to change my career and that’s why I’m taking holistic nutrition now. I can definitely help you out if you have any questions, just let me know!!

    • Thanks Jen!! Your constant support truly means the world to me. I kind of had a moment as we were leaving LA that I had NO content planned, a full plate of work, & a bunch of back-end bugs that I needed to fix & felt a burnout coming. Not even going to lie, it’s been VERY refreshing & I’ve gotten SO organized in the past week. I might even need to take a third week!!

      UGH it’s the worst. Right now, I’m still in that “figuring it out” phase so I think eliminating things is def the way to go. The two concerns we have right now are gluten & dairy. I love that it’s what shaped your career and passion though!!! If you have any suggestions for getting started with this, I’d be immensely grateful!! Thanks so much for the constant love, love!!       • Gluten and dairy are definitely a good place to start, and I’m sure you’ve gotten into it by now! My advice would be to remember that it’s going to take longer than you think… it can sometimes take a couple of months (but sometimes less!!) of totally eliminating before you feel better, unless it’s actually something else that’s triggering you of course. The best thing to do is to eliminate the top 8 allergens if you can, and leave them out until you’re feeling good… and then bring them back in one at a time. The reactions can be delayed (literally up to 5 days later with pork specifically!!) so only reintroduce one food every 3-4 days.
        Something else to consider is getting IgG food sensitivity testing done. It can be expensive (at least in Canada it is, not sure about there…) but it can save you a lot of trial and error.

  • Taking time off is necessary, but it’s hard sometimes it comes at the worst possible time but if it makes your life easier and better then it’s worth it. I hope you figure out the food situation soon!
