{ #JAM }: Eko Zu – “Let Me Fall”

It’s no surprise, but San Francisco is seriously one of the coolest cities in the nation.

Bold statement, I know.

I remember when I first moved here, it was as if the passion I had for everything was revitalized. I was in a city with so many movers & shakers that it was time to make shit happen.

Everyone here is so ambitious and passionate. Every day, a new start up, app, or business is up and running & if you’re willing to work for it, there is room for everyone.

Well, that said, the friends I’ve made here are some of the coolest, most interesting people I ever had the pleasure to meet.

My girl, Mal, being one of the best of the best.

Mal is the founder and owner of MalLabel Music – a record label with some of the coolest songs you haven’t heard of yet. She specializes in everything from glitch hop, to underground EDM, to hip hop, to deep house. Basically anything underground and ahead of the curve.

In fact, funny story, but right before I moved to San Francisco in 2013, I went to Austin on July 4th weekend for the String Cheese Incident festival. We ended up at a late night underground afterparty on 6th Street where Psymbionic & Gladkill DJed that, I found out just a few months ago, she had a major hand in organizing… not to mention Psymbionic is on her label. Fast forward to over three years later, and she is now one of my very best friends! PS – this is my favourite Psymbionic song.

Anyways, a few weeks ago, she sent me anote saying she just released a new song, “Let Me Fall” by local trio Eko Zu. on her label but said that she thought I would really love it & sent the track my way.

I gave it a listen and boy does she know my music taste because I was hooked at first listen (those who follow me on snap know I constantly have it on in the background).

“Let Me Fall” by Eko Zu is serious aural gold. As mentioned, Eko Zu is a California trio with a mysterious touch. They embrace the animals at heart and wear masks to accompany. Think strong female vocalswith a nice trippy vibe.

I was captivated and all in by the first 5 seconds.

It has elements of deep house & nu-disco – all things I love. In fact, it kind of gives me the Samantha James vibe. If you like Kaskade, you will love Eko Zu & especially this track.

This is a song you have on as you get ready for the night ahead, or on for a late night party situation. It’s a sexy, loungey song that’s perfect for the weekend or a sexy night out.

Also, be sure to check out the video. it’s all illustrated and paired with some Berry White (I normally get mine via Eaze), it’s quite captivating.

Anyways, let me know what you think! I’ll also try and get Mal in for a #WCW interview. If you enjoyed this song, be sure to check out last week’s feature: Ghostboy.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! I’m spending it by still figuring out wtf to do for Erik’s birthday…. wish me luck. I foresee lot’s of Orange Gooses (aka what we coined his dear vodka oj’s). Let me know if you have any cutie ideas.

On another note, my thoughts, prayers, and love are with everyone affected by last weekend’s tragic fire in Oakland. If you’d like to donate (provides assistance & relief to victims and families of victims of the fire), the Oakland Raiders, Oakland A’s & Golden State Warriors created a wonderful fund here.
