I got a new one for you…
Featuring :: Tuxedo – Do It
I’ve mentioned it time and time again…. if I had to choose a favourite genre, it’s nu-disco. Hands down
Maybe because I’m so nostalgic for a time that I never experienced?
Also, as I’ve gotten more and more passionate about music since 2006, I’ve found that so much of it is inspired by the disco era (thanks Giorgio!)
Tuxedo is a recent discovery for me…. but not really.
Let me explain.
Give them a listen, I guarantee it will transport you in time… and if you’re in California and need some help with said transport, click here because, like they said, it’s time to light one and put it in the atmosphere, y’all
Okay, enough fun & games, let’s talk the brainchild behind Tuxedo, their style, and the gentlemen themselves.
So I’ve had a major crush on Mayer Hawthorne for some time now. Not only is he gorgeous (so are you, Jake One!), but he’s even better on the ears than the eyes. Seriously, give him a listen, and you will too. He’s a singer, producer, DJ, song writer – a musician in every sense of the word. Not to mention, his voice is incredible! His style is very soul-ful, funky
I heard him for the first time back in 2013 on “Her Favourite Song” (PS – the Oliver remix is my favourite of it but they just kill it on the remixes always). Another favourite feature of him is in the PHENOMENAL song “Deep End” by Coucheron. It is one of my all time favourite songs. More on that another day.
Now Jake One… I guarantee you have heard his work before. He is a famous hip-hop producer and has worked with the likes of Snoop Dogg, G-Unit, T.I., aQiz Khaliofa, Dre, Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar, Rick Ross…. and to be honest, I have not even made a dent on his CV. Seriously, major talent.
Put them together and you have seriously my dream combo. I’m talking nu-disco-retro-synth mixed with some hip hop funk. Like, all my favourite sounds into one. Kind of reminds me of Justin Timberlake mixed with some Chromeo.
Do It is no exception.
It’s funky, it’s fresh, it makes me tap my feet no matter where I am. Bringing the disco to the desk rn tbh.
The song is heavy on the synths, dreamy on the vocals, funky as a hell, Groovy as hell.
It’s the perfect song to pump you up for the weekend. I don’t know about you, but this has been a LONG weekend so having this on repeat just gets me stoked.
Like, as I listen to it, I want to be dancing with my baby, ice cold martini in hand, in the discotheque. Anyone else? Well, I can kinda make that a reality since they are here in SF tomorrow with my man Giorgio for SanFranDisco – tix available here if you want to join me.
Cheers and have a funky weekend!
PS – running behind on the thing I mentioned last week. Next Friday, I promise! I’ll reveal why I’m so behind on this then, but trust when I say it’s for a silly reason BUT the perfectionist in me won’t give it up! Stay tuned…
