Well, hello!

I recently just got back from an amazing weekend in LA, and despite being sick as a dog, I still feel on Cloud 9 about it.

In the 72 hours of being there, I got to see so many people that I care about that my heart is full.

For starters, my family lives there so I go quite often. Interestingly enough, a ton of people I know from Texas found themselves a home there (can’t blame them), not to mention it was a weekend where people were in town too.

LA Calling for sure.

Personally, I love LA. I’ve always considered it a second home, and if I was to split up my time between Northern California & Southern California, I’d be a happy girl.

Whenever I land in LAX, there’s always a feeling of home. I’ve also never been there with Erik, so I was so happy to have him see that part of home for me. That said, leaving LA is always sad for me. Especially as I get older, and that feeling of home just feels more and more like a dream.

Anyways, enough with all the seriousness. Time to talk food, alcohol, and the most ridiculous story ever!

{ Georgina Sparks vibes }

My grandparents live in Westwood, so we stayed right around the corner at the W Westwood. The location was perfect. Just a hop, skip, jump away from Westwood Village (including the most ridiculous nail salon ever… more on that in a sec).

In fact, the W is so trendy on the inside, we mistook the DJ booth for the check in desk LOL Erik and I just can’t hang these days.

They have a sick pool bar, with the most dreamy lights, that I of course didn’t take any photos of, as well as a hip lobby lounge. One thing they had that was SO COOL was an in house photobooth! Fun, right?

As far as eating & drinking, we didn’t have much time, so didn’t get to go to all of the places we wanted. Alfred’s Tea Room was on the list, as well as Beverly HIlls Hotel, but wine won over tea (aka we wanted something a little stronger) and BHH had no availability (aka better planning next time – DYING for their palm pajamas though, & well, the entire Martinique print collection *hint hint Erik* 😉 ).

We met up with our friends Joey & Gitana (Gitana runs the cutie blog Books & Bellinis btw) at a bar that an old friend of mine in Dallas runs called Good Times at Davey Wayne’s & it was absolutely everything you could ever want.

Think a sick house party with some insane tiki drinks. They also have boozy snowcones (YES YES YES) & the most rad food stand. Erik & I shared a bacon wrapped hot dog and steak tacos. Oh, right, not to mention the outdoor bar (literally a mobile home decorated to the max) was full of 70s porno spreads.

A good time was had, indeed.

The next day, we went to a family favourite, the Farmer’s Market in the Grove. This is a VERY special place to me. I have gone there for about 20 years now with my grandparents so it was super special to me to show it to Erik. The choices there are endless but we went with Loteria! & ice cream bars at Barnett’s.

Then, we had some time to spare so I went to the nail salon… AGAIN MORE ON THAT BELOW…. before dinner at Rock Sugar in Centruy City for a big family affair. My grandmother planned the sweetest dinner party for my father and it was so, so good. Erik and I had the best time and if you go, TRUST US and get the Princess Shrimp.

{ Brunch at Chez Marie }

The next day, we did brunch at Cafe Chez Marie which is my most favourite brunch spot in California (Cafe Flore is a close second). It is seriously the most dreamy place ever that I discovered last year with my friend Cherie.

I’ve probably passed by it 1000x times in my life before we finally went in 2014 but now it’s a must go every single time I am in LA. My grandparents loved it as well!

Our flight got majorly delayed, so we had time to meet up with more friends. Franceska of Franzies & her husband Martin just arrived to Beverly Hills, so we grabbed drinks at the Viceroy Beverly Hills. Joey & Gitana came back and before we knew it, it was a big happy family.

Just talking to Franceska, sharing our struggles and accomplishments and goals and truly just being so happy for each other was second to none. Also, talking blogging, sharing upcoming plans, and just talking was great.

Those two girls are def two to watch & to be completely real, Franceska’s success completely motivates me.

She has remained so true to herself, business, and relationship and it shows in all her accomplishments. I only aspire to be like her. #ITB

Before we knew it, it was time to get on our majorly delayed flight. On a VERY short flight back, we were back home in San Francisco.

That said, I am making a goal to go to LA at least once a month. Again, it is my second home… even if it has the most whack nail salon.

I really wanted to get my nails done. They looked BAD. Erik wanted a nap before dinner so I meandered over to get a much needed mani & pedi (loving muted pastels rn btw). So I’m sitting in my spa chair, minding my own business and kind of like DryBar, they have TV’s and playing a movie. I’m pretty stoked, hoping to get a major chick flick Dry Bar style.

I don’t even know if they knew what movie they had on, but let me just say, it was rated NR, it HAD to have been. And keep in mind, this is just a typical nail salon. Not like trendy ole Davey Wayne’s with 70s porno to be cheeky. I seriously think this nail salon had no idea what they had on.

It was some party movie, with these 2 high school guys and they go on Spring Break.

Every other word was VERY explicit (volume was up, of course WITH captions), there were wet t-shirt contests, full on nudity (of BOTH sexes, btw), and lots of other very questionable things, like… there was def a scene of a cock-fight, I’m talking a rooster because at this point, I feel like there should be clarity.

And look, I’m no prude. FARRRRRRR from it. But like, place and time for it?

Anyways, on that note, I’m out!

What say you – any LA reccs? Do tell!

PS – check out this sign that made me LOL

    It was so great getting to spend time with you guys 🙂 Please please PLEASE let me know the next time you’re in town so we can implement these monthly business meetings 😉

    Also SO weird about the nail salon. But your nails were bad ass anyways and looked awesome. Mine were all Effed… I always tell myself that if I stop biting the cuticles (horrific nervous habit) then I’ll reward myself with a mani.

    Talk to you soon. Hope you have a beautiful day!
