Well, hello!

Hope everyone’s week is going off to a great start.

Mine is on the crazy end. As you know, I was in New York all week and decided to play hooky on Friday. That said, I am paying for it with my inbox blowing up out of control.

C’est la vie.

Now, let’s talk New York!

I love San Francisco, don’t get me wrong, but man oh man I love New York.

I know it is cliched but there is something in the air there.

The Food & Beverage scene is second to none.

Seriously. It’s the same scene that I fell in love with years ago (& a huge catalyst in my life – remember this post? This was all fresh out of going back and forth from NY).

The food is some of the best of the best in the US. And there is just so much personality.

E & I really played things by ear – we had a list of places to go and things to do, which was JAM packed… only to decide “FUCK IT” and see where the wind blows us.

I am a huge planner (it’s what I do for my FTJ), so sometimes letting go of structured plans can give me some anxiety. ESPECIALLY when I decided to take Friday off completely from the blog… that later turned into Monday too. Also, most of my pictures are via iPhone.

While I am at it… can I just say how much I LOVE Snapchat (PS – not jumping the snap ship anytime soon, more on that in another post)?! Seriously. There is something so wonderful about that platform, and it has been a way to truly connect and engage.

If you follow me, you KNOW a big part of my life in general is eating and drinking.

I constantly snap restaurants because that is what really gets my wheels turning, but it’s so cool to get the screenshots on a recipe that might of caught your eye AND I was able to get a ton of NY reccs.

I seriously love that. To me, that’s what Snapchat is all about.

Again, I’ll do a full blown post on this since I do have a lot to say and I don’t want to get distracted.

Back to New York…

So the theme of our trip was steaks and single malts and we are not complaining! We also realized that we LOVE the West Village. We ended up there every single day and it just won my heart.

To be completely real, it got started on a BAD foot.

Extremely long story short, I got fucking SCAMMED by a scumbag cab company in Newark and they stole $500 from me, so THAT was fun.

Another perfect example why Uber / Lyft is necessary. I seriously feel like I got mugged.

Anyways, annoyed and tired from my redeye, I took a nap. Luckily, I was able to get about half of it back by the time I woke up and I am still working on the other half, but karma will always come back to bite and HARD so I’m not worried.

I wandered around the Upper East Side and just took in the scenery. Very wild to be somewhere for the first time in YEARS where everything feels so familiar but not. I was going to find lunch but we had some resos at Peter Luger (TL;DR GO HERE) so I decided to skip lunch and really work up an appetite.

Peter Luger’s is in Brooklyn, and man, is it good.

I’m talking classic steakhouse vibes, very heavy pours on the spirits, and sides like creamed spinach and potatoes.

Do note, this place is cash only (I’ll make a full on post of reccs though, stay tuned), but is a must go to! Erik and I have been lusting after it for months. This was also Erik’s favourite dinner on our trip!

The next day, we did dinner in Rockefeller center near Erik’s office at a place called Limani which was bomb. Think upscale mediterranean with a 3 course lunch menu (PS for $29 per person thanks to Restaurant Week). The decor was incredible & one to make Patrick Bateman proud – I’m talking very minimalistc, white, and blue.

Now lunch went on LONG and my boyfriend and I decided to hit up the West Village (I told you we loved the place) that evening. We went to one of my all time favourite bars called the Blind Tiger Ale House and honestly just wandered.

We were going to do Sleep No More (& check out the bar there in Chelsea called Gallows Green), but to be completely blunt, lost track of time. We wandered into a jazz club and then my favourite spot of the trip… Employees Only!

Employees Only is seriously the best bar I have ever been to. I loved the speakeasy feel and the drinks were second to none. I got a Waterloo which was Watermelon, Campari, Gin, & Lemon. I don’t know why I never thought to mix Campari and Watermelon but it’s a genius pairing. The flavours truly complement each other well.

Then, we ventured into the classic White Horse Tavern for IPAs and Hoegarden. Erik was really stoked about this bar – not only did they have Lagunitas on tap, but it’s a famous pub.

Then, we met one of my friends from high school at the Jane Hotel and spent the rest of the night on the Hudson at their roof bar overlooking Hoboken as we sipped champagne and shot Jameson… #yolo?

Oh, right, you probably noticed we haven’t had dinner yet. By now, it is 3:00am and we are buzzed so we hit up the food carts in New York! Can’t get more New York with some Shawarma and hotdogs, right? Blair Waldorf would NOT approve.

Saturday, we grabbed brunch at The Smith (SO GOOD), then wandered around Central Park and spent the rest of the day drinking champagne and blood orange mimosas at the Boathouse with more friends.

Before we knew it, it was almost 9:00pm and we had dinner resos at Minetta Tavern at 10:00p so we boogied on over back to… you called it… The West Village for one of the best steaks I’ve ever had in my life.

We had the Cote de Boeuf  – dry aged steak with bone marrow meant for sharing and man, oh man, it was seriously the best thing I have ever, ever, ever had. This is a MUST.

By now, we were the mayors of exhausted city, so we stopped by the bar, Trouble’s Trust,  in the Palace where we were staying (GREAT bar, btw) got some Chablis to go and enjoyed the view for our last night.

Now, it’s Sunday and this day has to be THE MOST memorable NY experience of my life.

My girlfriend Maggie snapped me and told me to make sure I hit up Bobo. Erik and I decide it would be perfect for brunch, so we pack our bags, hop in the car and head on over to… yes… West Village.

We seriously had the best time ever. It is the most darling restaurant tucked away in West Village that is actually a house. The owner lives up on top, but the bottom basement is a bar (more on that in a bit), then upstairs is the quaint little restaurant with a garden. Also, tucked away is a secret private room, which was later explained to us that it was a favourite of celebrities.

Everything they use is sustainable & organic. I had the Eggs Benedict & a Bloody Mary flight (the Mezacal one was my favourite!) and they were the best I ever had.

By now, we are ready to kill tim ebefore our flight, so we decide to head downstairs and drink at the bar. Erik was drinking IPA’s and i was drinking Le Piscine’s (aka Rose on Ice the Parisian Way)

Well, we became friends with the entire restaurant and our flight kept getting delayed so we got invited out to Bar Sardine next door with our new friends and we spent the afternoon ferneting about it until it was time for our flight.

{ Bar Sardine, West Village, New York // Champagne at Shannon's }And just like that, we hopped in the cab on the way to Newark, and the trip was over.

New York is seriously one of THE most special places in the world to me, and this trip was no exception. I might have been drunk but I totally cried in the car on the way to the airport as we were leaving.

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE San Francisco, but New York is just so special to me. It’s full of life, it’s full of passion, and the people there are just incredible.

New York has been the catalyst of so many things for me, but it keeps me passionate and inspired.

In fact, I’ve never been so motivated in my life to hunker down on the special project I am working on and make my dreams come true.

San Francisco and New York are such interesting places to me because they both totally parallel the other. I find what SF lacks, NY provides and vice versa. If I was to divvy up my time between the west coast & the east coast, I’d be one happy girl.

As far as the blog, I will do a LONG post full of my reccs. I have a great list of them, and already planning more trips there so we can hit every single place.

Now, time to get tf back to work and make some dreams come true y’all.

xx

Shannon
